‘Gravity’, ’12 Years A Slave’ And ‘American Hustle’ Most Nominated In BAFTA 2014

The 2014 British Academy Film Award nominations were released earlier today (Wednesday January 8th) and it’s a tight contest. 2013 was a year of sensational cinema and in most categories, winners are hard to choose.

Among the favourites, Gravity is the most nominated with eleven nominations with 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle tied in second place with ten nominations each. Captain Philips is nominated in nine categories.

In the lead actor category Bruce Dern and Chiwetel Ejiofor go up against Hollywood A listers Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Tom Hanks while the lead actress category includes nominations for Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams, Judy Dench, Cate Blanchett and Emma Thompson.

Her role in The Butler sees chat show legend Oprah Winfrey nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category against fellow nominees Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle, Julia Roberts for Osage County, Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years A Slave and Sally Hawkins for Blue Jasmine while amongst the Best Supporting Actor nominees are Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender and Bradley Cooper.

Dane Dehaan, George Mackay, Lupita Nyong’o, Will Poulter and Lea Seydoux are all nominated for the  EE Rising Star Award, which differs from the other awards because it is voted for by the public and not by the jury.
