Academy Awards 2014 Nominations Announced

The most nominated titles differ slightly from the BAFTAs, whose nominations were announced last week, seeing 12 Years A Slave snubbed by Gravity and American Hustle, which are both nominated in 10 categories. 12 Years A Slave was nominated in nine. And those are the front runners.

The next most nominated movies are up for only 6 categories. These include Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers’ Club and Nebraska. Also noteworthy and with five nominations each were Her and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Competing for the most coveted award, the Best Picture Oscar, are all of the above titles and Philomena, a British independent film starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, which was also nominated for but did not win a BIFA last December.
